São Miguel Wedding Workshop
Azores Workshop: January 28th and 29th, 2025
In early 2024, we hosted a two-day workshop in stunning São Miguel. That experience left us longing for more, so we’re thrilled to announce our return in January 2025.
Simply put, the breathtaking landscapes of São Miguel made us want to come back. The meeting of the Atlantic’s raw beauty with lush green hills and volcanic wonders is absolutely remarkable. This Azorean gem needs to be seen with your own eyes, which is why we’re so excited to return.
Whether you’re drawn to the iconic twin lakes of Sete Cidades, the dramatic coastal scenery of Mosteiros beach, or the serene shores of Furnas Lake, our São Miguel workshop promises to elevate your portfolio with stunning scenes from one of Europe’s most captivating islands.
Format
This workshop is focused on photographing wedding couples in dramatic landscapes and breathtaking backdrops. It’s very much adventure-focused, and we will travel extensively around the island. There will be two couples – one per day – both in full wedding attire.
From sunrise to sunset, we will be together as a group. Transportation is provided for all workshop participants each day. With our experience on the island, we know the best locations and can adapt quickly should weather conditions require us to change plans.
Planning
Seats for this workshop will be limited, ensuring an intimate and exclusive experience. The workshop will take place on January 28th and 29th, 2025. Participants should arrive in Ponta Delgada no later than January 27th, 2025.
For those planning travel, Ponta Delgada–João Paulo II Airport (PDL) is your destination. While food, beverages, and transportation to São Miguel are not included, we will provide transportation throughout each workshop day on January 28th and 29th.
For accommodations, we recommend MS Vila Nova. However, you’re free to choose other options if you prefer. We’ll set up a WhatsApp group for all participants, allowing you to discuss and coordinate accommodations among yourselves.
Hosts
There’s something to be said about chemistry when hosting guests in a wild place such as São Miguel, and the hosts of this workshop have it in spades. Anna and Cole have hosted countless workshops together over the years. From Iceland to Madeira, Mallorca to the Dolomites, they have forged a working bond that is truly seamless. Filipa and Cole have also joined forces, with their first experience co-hosting on São Miguel in early 2024.

Cole is the co-founder of Way Up North, Kolla, Nordica and has been a Fujifilm X-Photographer since 2016. His passion for photography is matched only by his love for the great outdoors and country music.
Filipa Couto
São Miguel, Portugal
Filipa is a brilliant wedding photographer from São Miguel who knows her beautiful island inside out. Her deep knowledge of key locations and local vendors made her invaluable during our first workshop in São Miguel in early 2024. Working with her again for our next event is a true pleasure. Filipa’s expertise and passion for her island home continue to enrich our workshops, offering participants a unique, insider’s perspective of São Miguel.
Anna Ascari

Anna is the co-founder of Hakuna Matata Weddings and a distinguished wedding photographer. Her accolades include the Way Up North award for ‘Best European Wedding Photographer Under 25’ in 2021 and ‘Wedding Photographer of the Year’ in 2022.
