With two strands, the Way Up North Awards is a competition with a twist.

Put your own work forward for the three Contest categories but it’s not all ‘me me me’, so nominate your favourite professionals for the Awards categories. It’s a unique but simple way to put your work in among the best in Europe.

PHOTOGRAPHY JUDGES

International photographers from both weddings and the commercial field complimented by seasoned eyes for stills, the variety of judges for the photo categories will have their work cut out for them to eventually name the winners.

Nirav Patel is a fine art photographer based in San Francisco, CA that specializes in portrait and editorial photography.

Flothemes

Flothemes is a global team of creative designers, tech gurus and coffee lovers who put their heads and hearts together to build purposeful, innovative and powerful web design products, for the community they love.

Fer Juaristi

Fer Juaristi is a destination wedding photographer based in Monterrey, Mexico who is a father, a friend, a traveler, and a husband.

Citlalli Rico

Citlalli Rico is a destination wedding photographer based in Cancun who loves salsa dancing, cookies and everything related to visual arts.

VIDEOGRAPHY JUDGES

One part filmmaker, a dash of multitalented wedding photographers with a sprinkle of artistic trend-spotters and talent gatherers. This eclectic collection of artists will narrow the field in the filmmaker categories.

Forged in the North

Forged in the North are a collective of wanderlust photographers and cinematographers based in Brooklyn who find beauty in all things.

Tomasz Wagner

Tomasz Wagner is a Vancouver-based artist whose company, Wagner & Co. Film, create Super 8 wedding films around the world.

Sachin Khona

Sachin Khona is a Vancouver based wedding and portrait photographer and founder of Arc.

Benj Haisch

Benj Haisch is a wedding and elopement photographer based in Seattle, Washington who specializes in intimate weddings in gorgeous outdoor locations.

For Europe’s Best Young Photographer, what age is eligible?

Any photographer from Europe 25 years or younger by December 31st, 2018.

What is a nomination?

There are three categories where winners are first nominated: Europe’s Best Wedding Photographer, Europe’s Best Young Wedding Photographer, Europe’s Best Wedding Videographer. After being nominated, nominees will be contact via email and asked to submit work which will be judged.

What is a wedding photo?

A photo taken on the same day as the wedding ceremony.

What is a wedding video?

A video filmed on the same day as the wedding ceremony.

What is a wedding story?

A collection of images taken on the same day as the wedding ceremony.

Can non-wedding day photos be entered?

Photos taken at engagement sessions, day after sessions, styled shoots, commercials, editorials, workshops do not quality as images which can be entered for this contest. Any photos outside of a wedding day are not applicable for these awards.

Does the wedding need to have been within Europe?

Yes. If the wedding was not in Europe, it is not eligible for this contest.

Does it have to be a 2018 wedding?

Yes, the wedding needs to have taken place in 2018 to qualify.

Who can enter?

Permanent residences or passport holders of any Europe country who are older than 18 years of age as of 1 January 2018.

Who can’t enter?

Non-Europeans, as well as Way Up North team members and contest judges.

What about studio entries?

An entry is considered by an individual. If the individual wins, the studio will be mentioned but credit goes to the individual.

Do people need to attend Way Up North™ to enter or win?

Any Europeans can be nominated or enter the contests, regardless if you’re attending WUN or not.

What is a submission?

There are three categories where you’re invited to send in submissions of your own work: Europe’s Best Wedding Photograph, Europe’s Best Wedding Story, Europe’s Best Wedding Video.

What are the date restrictions for submissions?

If you want to submit your own work for the Contest categories, you can do this from 1 December (00:01 CET) 2018 to 31 December (23:59 CET) 2018.

When are nominations accepted?

If you’d like to nominate someone in the Awards categories, you can do this between 1 December (00:01 CET) and 31 December (23:59 CET) 2018.
