Iceland Workshop

Styrmir and Heiðdís have photographed over 300 weddings and elopements across Iceland. They live in a small seaside village where the wind has a name and the weather changes its mind three times before lunch. Their entire career has been built in conditions most photographers would cancel a shoot over.
This is a two-day workshop on their turf. You’ll photograph real couples on black sand beaches in whatever light and weather shows up. No golden-hour guarantees. No Pinterest mood boards. The Icelandic coast doesn’t care about your shot list.
They call it As Witnessed by the Wind. Fair enough. That’s what it feels like when you’re standing on a volcanic beach with a camera and the Atlantic is making all the decisions.
Iceland Workshop
What You’ll Do
Day One (October 27th) Arrive at the villa around 16:00. A slow landing. Shared dinner. An open conversation about how Styrmir and Heiðdís work: reading difficult light, guiding people through uncomfortable moments, and adapting when plans stop behaving. Less lecture. More honest exchange. Hot tub. Sauna. Fire. The retreat begins by building the space around it.
Day Two (October 28th) Breakfast, then out together towards the edge of the Highlands. The journey is part of the experience. Real couples. Real weather. Real problem solving. We’ll photograph, explore, share lunch out in the landscape, and talk through everything that happens before, during, and after the shutter is pressed. On the way back we’ll stop for dinner together before returning to the villa for a slower evening, hot tub, and the conversations that somehow always become the ones you remember.
Day Three (October 29th) A slower morning. Coffee, reflections, and a look back through yesterday’s photographs together. After checking out of the villa, we’ll head out for one final, quieter shoot before bringing the retreat to a close in the early afternoon.
Logistics
October 27th – 29th, 2026. Arrive at the villa around 16:00 on the 27th for dinner, conversation, and the start of the retreat. A full day of adventure on the 28th. After a slower morning and one final shoot, we’ll bring the retreat to a close in the early afternoon on the 29th.
You’ll stay at the villa in private rooms with double beds, shared with a partner or alone if you prefer.
Transportation to Eyrarbakki is on you, but we’ll set up a WhatsApp group ahead of time so everyone can connect, coordinate rides, and arrive together if possible.
Where You’ll Stay
Everyone stays together at a villa on the edge of the North Atlantic. Private rooms with double beds, shared with a partner or alone if you prefer. Ocean-facing balconies, hot tub, sauna, and wind at the doorstep. Shared meals, slow mornings, and the kind of conversations that keep going long after the shoots wrap.
Who This Is For
Photographers who want to get better at working when conditions won’t cooperate. Who are tired of images that look polished but feel empty. Who want to learn from two people who’ve built a career in some of the most unpredictable shooting conditions in Europe.
Bring an open mind and a willingness to be uncomfortable for a bit.
Who You’ll Photograph

What You’ll Leave With
A deeper trust in your instincts. A clearer way of seeing light when there’s barely any. A different relationship with weather, uncertainty, and the moments that feel like they’re going wrong but are actually going somewhere.
And better work. That part tends to follow.
