When & Where

September 1st + 2nd, 2026

Funchal serves as home base. Plan to arrive at Madeira Airport (FNC) anytime before September 1st. The workshop runs September 1st and 2nd, with nothing scheduled outside these two days. Airport to Funchal is roughly 15 minutes, so you’re in quickly once you land.

Format & Size

Photography-focused with physical activity included. Expect hiking on safe trails with some uphill sections. We’ll photograph one couple each day during golden hour, sunrise and sunset. The goal: cover as many locations as possible in a condensed window. Maximum 8 participants, plus host and couples.

Midday breaks are for group discussions on business insights, artistic development, and entrepreneurial strategy. Most of the energy will go toward shooting and exploring Madeira’s landscape.

Host

Cole Roberts

Cole is the co-founder of Way Up North, Hop Farm Beach, Nordica and has been a Fujifilm X-Photographer since 2016. He lives in Gävle, Sweden with his wife and three kids. He wishes he spent more time at his cabin chopping wood and lighting fires while listening to country music.

Who will we photograph?

Two couples needed, one per shooting day.

The exchange: be photographed in wedding attire on your day, attend the workshop as a participant on the other. No fee.

Open to any real couple willing to do both. Names and photos go here once they’re booked. Email [email protected] if you’re keen.

Included / Not Included

Accommodations aren’t included. We’ll recommend a hotel in Funchal where the group can stay. Optional, of course. A WhatsApp group will be set up before the trip, and based on intros, you may choose to share rooms to lower costs. Transportation is included on September 1st and 2nd, the workshop days. Food and beverages aren’t included.

Madeira’s roads are notoriously windy. Many guests choose to rent their own car to avoid car sickness rather than relying on shared transport. This is fine and common for this workshop.

Recommended Hotel

Our recommended hotel is Enotel Magnólia. However, guests are welcome to stay anywhere that suits them so long as it’s located in Funchal.
